High Holiday Appeal 5778
So here we are again with summer not even over and the High Holidays are right around the corner. It is actually such an exciting time of year for our kehilla (sacred community) as Beth Shalom is looking forward to a great year full of wonderful simchas; fun and meaningful programming; an amazing Youth Group; an active, thriving Alefbet Preschool and course your choice of spiritual opportunities from Friday night services to Shabbat morning in the sanctuary or at one of the children’s services to any holiday or minyan of your choice. You see, our kehilla is your kehilla. This connection to our Judaism and to each other is what makes Beth Shalom thrive from generation to generation.
However, to continue our growth and maintain our building and operating costs, we need the support of each and every member with this year’s High Holiday Appeal. Dues only cover only a part of our operating expenses with more than a third of our activities being supported by your donations.
As our building ages, your generosity has enabled us to make many important repairs and upgrades over the last year, and we anticipate a few more in the coming year to bring our shul up to more modern standards. We are very excited (and you will be too) when our new ShulCloud database comes online after the holidays. This new web based, mobile user-friendly database will allow all of us to communicate and be connected in a customized, convenient way.
Though we continue to manage our budgets with fiscal responsibility, our active building requires ongoing upkeep, including many unanticipated items that fall outside our modest budgets, such as the needed repair to the accordion doors in the back of the sanctuary. Additionally, after careful review of our capital improvement needs, we now need to replace our roof in the kitchen and Education Wing (which are the original roofs).
The amount necessary for these repairs is considerable. But I have faith in our Congregation and your commitment to ensuring that Beth Shalom continues to offer a diverse range of programs and services to make each of you feel that we are your kehilla.
In asking for your generous donation, I also ask that you please, if possible, consider an increase over last year’s pledge. Additionally, we hope to have as many pledges as possible in advance of my High Holiday appeal, to help our staff and Synagogue Board best prioritize and plan for our needs in the coming year.
I am once again honored to be a part of the leadership of our kehilla, and I want to thank you for entrusting me as President. As always, if there is anything that I can do to address a need or a concern, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I thank you for your ongoing commitment to Beth Shalom and, in advance, I thank you for your investment in our future.
On behalf of my wife Amanda and my entire family, we wish that you be inscribed in the Book of Life for a healthy and Happy New Year.
See you in shul!
